We have a mature apple tree in our garden (not sure how old) but trunk is fairly hugh... We had a really good crop of apple in 2011, last year it had flowers and when we had a late frost it killed it all and this year not a single  flower or leaf has came out. Instead the bark of the apple tree is peeling and it is showing red coloue where the bark has peeled off.

I am sure this is now dead apple tree biut can anyone tell me what went wrong? Can i plant a wisteria underneath and used the tree as its climbing frame? or there is problem wiht the soil??

Many thank

Hi preksha. If you haven't got leaves or flowers now then you're right, it's dead. Trouble with the wisteria idea is that wisteria takes some time to come to maturity and dead trees fall over eventually. Also you don't know what it died of, it won't have been last year's frost.
