Hello,

I have inherited an apple tree on my allotment plot which needs pruning (I think).  It has 3 different grafts on it, non of which I know the type of.

The person who had the plot before me pruned it last year, but all the new growth is going completly vertically and won't support the weight of any apples.

Should I remove all the vertical new growth, or is it supposed to do this?  It has started to produce buds, so I should probably do this fairly quickly!

Any advice would be great

i would cut back the <span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">vertacal new growth to 3 or 4 buds  and the cut out any damaged or crossing branches  first then see how it go's let in more air and light
