I have lots of bearded irises which after last week's warm weather here have shot up flower stalks. They were all upright before Saturday night when we had some frost. On Sunday most of them were bent over and twisted, some with open flowers touching the ground. Does it have anything to do with the cold? And will they recover? Thanks
Yes, they have got chilled through, they may well stand up straight again, many plants actually do after a quick freeze. Much will depend upon how frozen they got, how many cells were damaged and how much stem was bitten by the cold. The flowers will still be good, I don't know if there is anything else you can do - hopefully others will know more to help you.
Thanks Bookertoo. Some do look worse than others. I'll just keep my fingers crossed. It happened last year to a lesser degree, and you're right, the flowers were still good. I just couldn't remember if it was cold related or not.
