Bedding Plants poor showing

Can anyone advise. I have put a lot of bedding plants in and they are really disappointing so far. For instance Marigolds with hardly any foliage and flowers that are very poor. The marigolds are in the same setting as last year where they really thrived.

I am having simialr problems with pansies and begonias.

I have hardly planted anything out yet, too cold at nights. Same thing last year and I planted in the first two weeks of June.

Did you harden them off gradually, bring them in at nights?

Did you buy them from a garden centre where they have been inside all the time.

I wouldnt let my tagettes or anything else flower yet, so I pick off all the buds until the plant is bigger, they cant flower and grow into big plants.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
