Black hard shell, ugly, little white spots and body armour , fly and really get a grip on things. Keep looking for name but never find them, are they stag beetles?

Stag beetles dont fly-do they?-are they around now?

I don't know if they do or not , here these things fly and no not around yet , when gets warmer. Sorry memory re jiggled (random) wanted to know what they are when they arrive , lab olive still has scar on lip from last attachment of one (her own fault trying to eat it)

how big are these beetles? where do you see them ? (ground, plants, compost heap?) are there lots of them or the occasional one

Quite a few appear like spiders, come in the house on walls, outside on deck or walls, pergola , like you would see a fly etc size errr, maybe half inch long.

I'll have a think, not sounding familiar at the moment. When they turn up you may have to take a pic.

Look up fur beetles which are native and Asian long horned beetles which are a pest and look quite spidery.

Forget the green shield bug-forgot they were black-is this it?
