..6 foot tall by 8 foot wide... Ceanothus 'Concha' is probably the plant you want... easily available at most plant centres... fast growing, evergreen, mass of deep blue flowers coming out shortly....  perhaps you have room for two...

Can you put up a couple of vine eyes and wire?

You could then plant some climbers....clematis montana right now is smothered by pink scented flowers.  Solanum album is an evergreen climber with masses of white flowers throughout summer.  Honeysuckles or jasmine.....both are great for summer scent.

the problem is nothing will attach to the concrete wall cant fix a wire need something that is free standing in front of the wall

Cotoneaster horizontalis is a free standing shrub that will happily lean on and grow on a wall.  Lovely red berries too

You could also look at chaenomeles. Early flowers - white, or, red or pink - and can be trained (pruned) to go against a wall.

You could put up posts in front of the wall and attach a trellis.

Which way does it face?  And you say the wall joins straight onto a patio?  Is there much of an area to plant in?  Can you post a picture to help us please

The wall faces outwards onto the patio next to my back patio window

Plants suggested are great but want complete coverage so cannot see into next doors garden.

Hedge of some sort would be good but ones i have seen are really expensive and have to be attached and could do with a suggestion for free standiing potted hedges if they exhist  got one quote for 3000 dollars!!

Are you in USA?  I think you have different shrubs there, otherwise I would suggest an ornamental ivy or climbing hydranga

I was about to suggest an ivy too, viz.  Hedera Buttercup.....lovely yellow foliage and it gets quite thick

no am not in usa in uk prob is needs to be free standing only

have got a screen artificial large one but when attached at edges keeps billowing out in the middle ....do you think i should cut into small pieces to attach it and what would hold this onto the wall?

Sorry, you mentioned a cost of 3000 dollars so I thought you were abroad.

Have you thought of painting the wall as a first step to making it less obstrusive?

I'm not sure your screen idea sounds suitable.  A self-clinging plant seems the way to go.
