I have a rather pathetic looking a self seeded Buddleja which was cut right down a few years back (as it had become very over grown) this left a 2-3ft tall trunk with a few sparse stem. I want to fix it so it'll will grow into a more convetional shape. and thought i could saw the trunk to ground level to see if i can get it to send up some new stems. but i'm not sure if this would destroy the plant (i am aware i can prune it now and i can be pretty brutal). any ideas?
