I had 10lbs of fruit from this old tree last year - a bumper crop in comparison to previous years.  It had lots of blossom again this year but no fruit developed and it had sap seeping from all over the trunk and branches - and very few leaves.  I wonder if it has just come to the end of it's life as it was well established when we moved here 16 years ago so I've no idea how old it is.  Should we hard prune it or just remove it altogether?

There have been a few similar postings recently about plums-the consensus seemed to be canker and may be terminal -does this sound familiar~~~~~~~~~~~
