My sister has a flowering almond or cherry (?) on which two branches are flattenned and are growing in a spiral fashion. It looks like some branches have fused together. Is it harmful? What causes it? Should we cut it out?
Hello chrislobsterman. This sounds like fasciation, and it's not harmful. (There are some images of fasciated cherry trees here.)
You can either cut the affected growth out, or, as our following guide says, enjoy it for its curiosity value! More information about fasciation.
Many thanks for your informative response. I had an idea it began with an F but couldn't think of the rest of the word. I will advise my sister forthwith.
