Can anyone identify this hedge please?

And what causes this, is it the very dry and hot weather?

 Thanks.

Hi Roy Parkes,

I have one of these in my front garden which I have trimmed to a rounded shape.

It started its life as a little shrub in a container arrangement. I can understand these being used as hedging. Unfortunately I dont know what it is despite looking through my Tree and Shrub book. I would presume this is due to the hot weather. Sorry I can't be of more help. I will look through my other books and get back if I can help.

Hi Roy, the hedge is Griselina littoralis aka New Zealand Privet.  The brown patches could be scorch....?

I agree with PaulaH. They grow well near the sea, it's often a little cooler near the sea. Has it been very hot where you are?

Thanks for all the replies, we live in Devon and it has been very hot for 10 days now 25/30 degrees, the hedge in question is in full sun from sunrise untill very late afternoon.

Hopefully it will pick up when the rains come, I assume that it is not lasting damage only scorch.
