Hedging

I wish to plant a small hedge at the road end of my garden.   To deter dogs I am thinking of Holly, not only for the prickles but also I assume the tough shiny leaves will be less damaged by urine.    Although no spines I would prefer Ilex Golden King.

Please can anyone advise on the possibility of this variety or any other for a small hedge pruned to about four feet high and three feet wide.

You can certainly make a hedge of it if you want to, although you may find that, in time, you will have a shell of leaves and a fairly empty middle. The only thing I'd say is that it would be best pruned by hand to keep a good shape rather than using a hedge trimmer.
