Leggy Magnolia Susan

My Magnolia Susan is becoming a bit leggy, and the flowers tend to only appear at the top of the plant. Its about 6ft tall and I'm wondering if it should be pruned this summer?

Any tips on pruning magnolia please?

I have a magnolia Susan. It tends to want to lie down. A bit of a lazy susan.

My Magnolia soulangeana, I take the loppers to it and remove branches that are in the way, any crossing, and any dead.  I tend to do it in the summer, around June or July.

The flowers do tend to form at the end of the branches. Drastic pruning will mean it will just grow a lot more until it flowers again at the end of the branches.
