In my new garden there is a monkey tree with brown branches mainly lower limbs it's not a tall tree maybe 6 or 7 feet high any ideas it is over crowded by a choisia and I planted on chalk.
Can I just cut out the brown limbs I also suspect like everything else in the garden it has been neglected but as always I thought I would ask Britain's finest cheer lester

If you prune the Araucaria it will die back from where it has been cut. Unfortunately this is a conifer that shouldn't be pruned unless it is very young but from the height you mention and the fact that these trees are very slow growing I personally wouldn't risk it as it is probably fairly old. The Choisya can be cut back.
