We have beds absolutely covered in moss in our new allotment. Is it ok just to dig it back in? We also use a rotavator occasionally and i was wondering if it might be the cause of the soil becoming compacted, thereby allowing the moss to grow? The beds are well drained but have not been cultivated for 2 years.

The fact that the beds have not been cultivated for 2 years will mean that they have become compacted. You can dig them over and this will allow air into the soil. You can dig the moss straight back in and as long as you continue to till it over it will reduce dramatically, if not disappear completely.  The only issue you might have is if the moss spores have spread to a lawned area but if you are not having a problem with that then you will be fine with just digging in.
