Overwintering Anemone De Caen
Hi! I'm brand new here. I've done some searching and can't quite find what I'm looking for.
I'm in Zone 8a and have a question about overwintering anemone de caen/coronaria.
I soaked/pre-sprouted/planted my anemone corms in early-mid November. (They went in the ground on 11/18 and were visible by 12/1.)
I have about 1/4 of my anemones in pots and the rest are in the ground. We're getting some pretty cold temps at night this week (but well above freezing during the day - sun definitely warms things up). This is my first year growing anemones and because all of the information that I've found has said that they are hardy in my zone... I also read a lot about folks who keep them in cold frames or in low tunnels. I currently do NOT have them covered - should I be covering them with a frost cloth in the evenings when temps dip below freezing? Or are the plants themselves hardy enough to handle below-freezing temps at night? Or is this a scenario, much like poppies in my region, where if I leave them uncovered they'll be somewhat dormant mounds of green until temps warm up and then they'll come alive and bloom?
Thanks!

Hi
Anemones are spring flowering perennials so they naturally die down in autumn and reappear in spring. There is no need to protect them other than have a layer of mulch (which is not just for this plant).
As we are a UK forum Zone 8 means very little to me, at least. All I know is that we are maritime under the influence of the Gulf Stream.
For what it's worth my anemones are in a raised bed; are not protected in any way and come up in spring and have done for some years. I love 'em.
