It's an ash tree sapling.  Not a tree you want in the average sized garden.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Eek no! Get rid of it unless you want  to be overrun.

How do these saplings get into the garden and pop up in some very inaccessible places?  I have found at least 20 of them in various stages of development over the last few months. Luckily they've been small enough to pull out. One has to be vigilant. Next door has one about 10 foot tall growing right in the middle of his lysimachia

Ash keys wizz around in the wind and find all the odd little places to germinate
