Rhubarb

We have got some rhubabrb in our garden, I presume it is the early variety as it seemed to stop growing and died off 6 weeks ago, so I tidied it up and this week is growing again. Some of the stems look ready to harvest but thought that after June time it wasn't great to eat?? Have I got that wrong? As we have inherited the rhubarb in a new garden I do not know the variety.

It's not because it's not great to eat that you don't eat it after June, but because the plant needs to build up its energy stores to produce stalks the next season.

Brill thanks. Thinking about it I may have read that before but at least it has clarified it for me.
