I am trying to find a suitable tree to plant in my small back garden.It will be east facing against a fence approx 15 ft from the house.I have tried two types before but they have'nt survived prunus sub autumn and before that populus candicans aurora.

I have no experience in growing the particular varieties of tree that you tried to grow before, but I'd have thought that ornamental cherries, and poplars should not be too difficult to grow.

I wonder why those trees did not survive. Is the soil really bad, for some reason, or were they allowed to dry out. Would a new, different, tree meet a better fate.

Maybe you could grow an ornamental cherry, if you like them.

Crab apples, amalanchier, weeping silver birch, flowering cherries - look them up on Google, there are a lot, some smaller than others, mountain ash. Make sure they are regularly watered for at least the first year, when the weather is dry.

a small japanese acer can look good and slow growing and not to big and I have quince tree which has delightful flowers and scent in spring and wonderful fruits for jam in winter.
