I just repotted a large willow from a small pot, the roots were so strong and deep into the soil i had to hack the root at the base of the pot, now i am worried i may have damaged my tree; can anyone advise or know whether my tree will survive, will the root recover? Thanks

Trees can cope with having their roots pruned, think of bonsai. Just remember to water it, but not too much over winter

Willows require huge amounts of moisture so the roots will always break through the bottom of a pot to seek it.     Root trimming is a recognised way of contrlling size so yur willow should be OK but do make sure it gets watered regularly and generously throughout the growing season and every day in summer.
