Weeds and bramble

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and would love some advice please.
I have moved into a house with a long garden.
It was over 6 foot tall with bramble and weeds and they covered 80% of the garden.
The grass, what there is of it, is full of weeds.
I have cut down many weed trees and had to get help to clear most of the garden as it was full of tall and nasty bramble.
It is now down to the soil but needs digging up. But with the garden over 120 foot long, I know I will not be able to dig that much!
Is there a weed killer I can use on it?
It must be bird and frog safe as there is frogs, toads and many birds in the garden and I don't want to harm any wild life at all.
Many thanks for any help at all and I am looking forward to reading your replies

Welcome to the forum.
For land like that, dig out as much of the roots of brambles as you can. I would treat the lot with a spray of glyphosate, as a one off to kill all the perennial weeds , of which you will have many. It will translocate down in to the roots and kill them off over a period of a few weeks. Then you can hire a rotavator and rotavate the lot. It is no good rotavating before you kill the perennial weeds as they will come back many fold. Then you can either plant it up, or cover with thick black plastic to keep it clear until you plant it next spring. I know it would be nice to have stuff in this year, but inadequate preparation of the ground this year will mean you are forking out things like bindweed, field thistle, docks etc for years to come.
You will probably need a knapsack type sprayer. The hire shops have those as well. Make sure you are covered up while you do it, and only spray on a calm day. Glyphosate will kill anything green it touches, but then degrades into the soil.
I use Rosate36 as a brand for glyphosphate. It's a lot stronger than Roundup and ideal for your task.
I had 30ft x 40ft to clear of brambles, nettles and ivy from an area last year up to 6ft high.
3 applications of Rosate36 over 6 weeks killed it all - even the ivy.
I use Roundup elsewhere in the garden for fear of overspray with the Rosate

Thank you also Pete8. I will look into that one also.
For some reason, I thought it would take a lot longer to kill off all the weeds. Pleased it won't take as long as I thought it would.
I will have to be careful and wait for a very calm day as there is trees on either side of the garden and wouldn't want to kill them in the process!
For now, I will be digging the roots of the bramble out.
So pleased this will not harm the wildlife.
Thanks again for helping and replying so fast.
The very best way is to dig out the roots. No weed killer required. Weak growth will come from some of the roots left behind, but easily disposed of. The dug out roots will burn well. Good luck.
