What is this?

Hi the attached has just appeared in one part of my garden. Any ideas what it is? I have pulled quite a bit out. The leaves are tinged red. image

The more info the better. Is that dead stem in the original pic part of it?

    What are the roots like?

Yes it is. It grows like a weed quite invasive.  I can't actually pull the root up as ground is too wet

That dead sticky bit in the first pic. Is it part of this plant Tracey?

I'd like to see it just growing, a hand is good for scale but alters the look of a plant.
