White spots on plants

I used some slug solution on a few of my garden plants the other day, and have discovered little white drip marks on the leaves of some of my lupin and my clematis, which I thought were related to watering.  I now wonder whether it could be powdery mildew instead?  The spots are pretty small - about 3 or 4 mm in diameter, and have given a polka dot appearance to some of the leaves.  Any ideas please?
