Hello - I will be sowing some spring cabbages outside in October. My last attempt to grow these failed miserably as I didnt realise they should of been covered with net to prevent the cabbage white butterfly laying its eggs on the leaves, then hatching and completely destroying them! Will I need to cover the cabbages with net in October to prevent anything eating them ?

You'll have to protect them from pigeons, butterflies might not be such a problem in October.

Its a bit late to sow spring cabbage in October. I'd sow them now, and then space out in October.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realise pigeons would be a problem.

wood pigeons are a problem year round in my garden. They will strip any brassica to the stem if they are not netted.
