Berberis Thunbergii Question regarding pruning

I was just looking to see when to prune this variety of Berberis and the RHS page says its pruning group 8. Copy and pasted below. However, isn't this a deciduous shrub, so isn't it a contradiction.....I find this very confusing so need clarification.

When to prune evergreen shrubs

You can prune most evergreen shrubs just before growth starts in mid-spring, after any risk of frost has passed. Pruning at this time will avoid frost damage to new shoots, and any pruning scars will be concealed by new growth.

    Hi Paul, yes it's deciduous

I cut back a few old stems to ground level now and then. I'm sure it would cope whatever you did. Late winter would be my time, others may do differently.
