We have a C Flammule planted last autumn  and it grew well last week it died down to ground level having read an article by Monty Don he says Clematis wilt does this but does not affect C Flammula. Any ideas would be great

Many thanks

I have two of these and one is doing well but the other has just died back so I'm going to cut off all the dead stems, water it thoroughly and give it a liquid feed of tomato fertiliser in the hope this will spur the roots into sending up new shoots.

This treatment has worked on a few other clematis that were decapitated or battered to shreds by a severe hailstorm in May so fingers crossed.

Cheers I will try it and hope it works

Great I took your advice now  we have 4new shoots fingers crossed the problem is fixed

Excellent news.    Make sure it's kept free of slugs with a few wildlife friendly pellets.   Baby clematis shoots can be slug caviar.
