Hello I am a newbie here and looking for help already. Could anyone advise the best time to buy savoy cabbage plants please?
We have grown carrots, potatoes and green beans and would now like to try savoy cabbage. All help gratefully received. Thankyou.

Now would be ok if you can find plants as it's too late to grow them from seed - they do most of their growing at the same time as normal cabbages, but are resilient enough to survive through the winter. If you manage to find some young plants, plant them deep, up to their bottom leaves, firm the ground well around the stem and keep them well watered otherwise they might bolt in this warm weather.
Could I add that should your soil be at all acidy, you will need to sprin
kle some lime in, not sure if it can be done now, I think its an Autumn job? Someone, anyone.??
Many thanks for these replies. We had thought they should be available about now, but none of our local garden centres could help with plants, only seeds. Will keep on trying or plan better for next year. Thanks anyway.
You only missed them by a couple of weeks LL - they're generally available up until about mid-July.
That will give you time to get the ground limed, then manured and trod down firm
Such excellent help for my very first post, I am so pleased, thankyou. Maybe I will be able to return the favour before too long.
