Clematis problem

As most things in the garden are early this year I thought I'd better check with you all about my clems. The ones that should be trimmed end of Feb begin of March, have flower buds on already and it seems a shame to cut them off. What should I do please?

Depends which ones they are. Mine were covered in buds too. The straggly Group 2 ones I've trimmed anyway. The non straggly group 2 I've just tidied up a bit. They will all get a tidy up after flowering anyway. The group 3 ones, such as Princess Diana, I am in the middle of cutting down to about a foot tall. The Montanas I won't touch at this time of year, but the 2 on the shed had to be pruned as part of the roof blew off in the gales and it had to be repaired.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
