Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I used to make special one-off novelty cakes for customers - found that Madeira cake was the best base for them - it's that little bit firmer.

Dove, those are amazing!
Thanks all I have brought green icing block and some small colour pack of icing and glue, not sure it will look like any of them Dove they are too good - but will try
It's great fun - just imagine that icing paste is Plasticine - and rather than dusting your rolling pin and work surface with icing sugar, try using a fine dusting of cornflour to stop it getting sticky

Are all those veg and flowers made from icing? I thought it was marzipan

There's a whole world of artistry that I knew nothing about
i made one years ago and recall using desiccated coconut in a plastic bag with a few drops of green colouring give it a real good shake and you have grass....like dove said pretend the paste is plasticine and you won't have an issue if you are making cauliflowers take the back of a clean hair grip shape your paste and use the end of the grip to pattern the florets it works the other way to do it is to roll the paste on the fine side of a cheese grater to give it texture. If you want to make edges and things that need to stand alone add half a teaspoon of gum tracacanth to half a pound of icing work it well and it dries hard and is reasonably robust.
good luck and enjoy it it's fun.
