is there a non-toxic evergreen tree I can get to grow in a large tub?

You could grow a bay tree (laurus nobilis) and you can use the leaves in cooking.
Ceres beat me to it! Bay get's my vote (particularly as it can be used culinarily.. & in 'naturalistic Christmas decor too!!)
Slightly early, I know, but good ideas cost nothing....? and they're 1/2 price if shared!!!
And it not even Mid October yet!!
Bay is a great idea and will take pruning to keep it in shape too.
Jo47: my mention was purely in the context of a helpful illustration of what might be done/ gained from having a bay bush in a pot! All that comes alongside the more normal culinary/ esthetic benefit which lasts all year!!
