Onion seed need to be planted around christmas.
Onion sets can go in in March
Chilli peppers in heat in March
wild rocket, any time from march onwards
Potatoes,outside around easter
Kale from March onwards to July
Pumpkin or squash, in heat from March
Rhubarb seed in Spring, but crowns go in in Winter.
Sweetcorn, sow in individual pots in Early May to plant out in June.
Agree with all of the above, the Garden Centres have potatoes you can grow for Xmas atm, I would assume they need some protection from frost though.. You can overwinter Chiilies too if you have a greenhouse. Good luck
WOW thanks fidgetbones I never expected such a great response
Oh what about Garlic??
Best varieties I have grown potato wise have been Charlotte for salads and Vivaldi for second earlies. I have yet to find a late one I really like, however, I haven't harvested the Sante yet, they are a new one for me this year!
Sorry, I do not grow any of the other veg you listed to give you an idea of varieties for those. Good luck though
Garlic is best planted in about November. You split up the bulb into cloves, and each clove grows into a whole bulb.
Just a follow-up thought: as a basic, easy-to-follow book, it's hard to beat the Vegetable and Herb Expert, in the Dr Hessayon series. This sets out all the times, spacings etc for each crop. I even have a spare copy in the shed, I use It so much!
When would you plant swedes (sorry to hijack thread) just wondered as I really like them?
In the spring, I fancy. But where you are....
Just logged back on....wow lots of advise, thanks a lot
