A friend of my mother's has given us some composted cow manure from her farm. It is about a year old but still has a lot of straw left in it. Is it better to wait until the manure looks more like soil or is this fine to use directly in my bed? Should I mix it with something in my raised beds (I am following a no dig regime)?
I should add that this is for growing veg.
I'd spread it on an empty veg patch for the winter - the weather and the worms will do their jobs and by the spring most of it will be incorporated in the soil, all you'll have to do is just cultivate he soil lightly and then it will be ready for growing.
Just dont put it where you want to grow carrots or other roots. or brassicas.
Great for potatoes, well rotted and dug in for beans and peas,
As a keen as mustard composter, I would like to hear how this works for you. Around here all I can get is horse manure so cow dung is an unknown .
