Photos from ipad
i have just learnt something re sideways/upside down photos uploaded from an iPad.
when I click on the tree icon and get the select box, then click choose photo library, you then get three options of your photos, moments, camera roll or photo stream.
now, whenever I chose moments, most times the photo uploads sideways, when I use photo stream, they upload correctly.
maybe this is just on my iPad, but if you have those choices, chose the photo stream.

Sounds a bit technical Lyn

Didn't have a problem when I used Samsung Galaxy, I am now using iPad, and its that one that seems to upload sideways. Even if you turn them in edit, they still come up wrong.
I find the same Lyn - I always wait til photos have copied over to the photostream, and then don't have a problem. Whereas ones from the camera roll end up any which way. Maybe one for Katie Carnie to have a look at ......lets see if I can find her thread
It's not a fault of the site, but of the iPad, I think.
Lyn, the iPad adds what is called EXIF information and that includes which way up you were holding the device when you took the photo. The problem is that only some web browsers take any notice of that. If you can be bothered, you can strip the EXIF information out of a photo before you edit/rotate it. Then it will stay the right way up.
This will do it - I don't know if it's free or what:

Or just google for "iPad remove EXIF". It's always a good idea to remove this 'meta data' before you post any photo's online as it can include personal details.
Thanks Bob - i assume it strips out the EXIF info when it transfers things to the photostream then. Always good to understand what is going on behind the scenes ....i am going to bed a slightly wiser chicky
Of course you can transfer your pics to 'photobucket' 'phtobox' or the like.....there you will able to edit them i.e. rotating them and many other things.
Doing this also simplifies transferring then here via 'the green tree'.
Thanks for all the above info - very useful - certainly explains why my landscape photos are usually OK but the portrait ones end up on their side.
I don't usually have photo stream activated (for reasons too boring to go into). If Chicky's deduction that photo stream strips the EXIF information is correct it will probably be worth putting it on if I am taking pictures for the forum.
Good detective work all round folks
RB & Pansy - out of interest (and only if you don't mind sharing personal info of course) - are you left handed or have a tendency to use your left hand a lot? I ask because my OH is 'a bit' left handed - e.g. he uses a knife & fork the wrong way round and digs left handed. He uses an iPad the 'wrong way' round too (ie with the home button on the left)
My clinical brain is quite interested in how inherent left handedness manifests itself in people who class themselves as right handed and ambidextrous.
Hope you don't mind me asking
