When is the best time to plant nerines? Various websites say plant in early autumn. Would they flower this year if they were planted now? They have just appeared in the garden centre and I wondered what state they might be in if left until autumn 2014!

My nerines have been here so long I can't remember planting them Og. They're not the hardiest bulbs and after winter rather than before sounds OK to me. They'll be dead by autumn if you don't plant them.

I potted mine in a terracotta pot as soon as I got them last spring. They have just died back after flowering all winter and some are showing new growth points. Outside all summer and autumn. I bring them inside in winter to see those pink flowers and they would be wrecked by winds and they are hardier dry than wet. Plant them relatively close together as that helps repel water and the competition seems to help flowering.

Excellent web site Edd. Better idea how to plant my nerine bulbs now.
