Should a greenhouse let in rain?
Hello!
Our new, two week old greenhouse is leaking through the two roof vents, where the aluminium window frame touches the ridge bar. Is this normal? The greenhouse was installed by a reputable and experienced company who say it is to be expected and normal. Is this right?

We erected our own greenhouse and spent ages trying to stop it leaking. It still leaks a tiny bit near the ground in the corner but has never leaked through the roof vents.
Thanks for the replies. Have contacred the manufacturer and am waiting for a response. The vents seem to open fine. Any one with a similar issue?
The roof vents on my polycarbonate GH both leak a bit. Hasn't really been a problem though.
Hi Jones567 - I recently put a new GH together and did have some issues with the vents where a 'lip' on the vent frame was supposed to dock with a groove on the ridge. It kept falling out but once it was glazed, the weight of the glass seemed to resolve the problem. No leaks.
I wouldn't have thought a leaking vent was normal no, and I'm assuming you had to pay extra for them to erect the GH?
My Rhino GH that was new last year doesn't leak and OH assembled it.
Jones 567 don't let them fob you off.
It's NOT normal for a GH to leak. If it is there are a number of reasons from warped frames to missing seals. Warping is the most likely cause. If it leaks it also lets in cold air which defeats the object.
Thanks for all the responses.
As it's leaking where the window frame touches the main roof bar, would there be a seal there.
Will wait to see what the manufacturers say on Monday.
Thanks.
Jones, I've just a thought ( I don't have many) Are you sure it is leaking and it isn't condensation?
I also thought that and wiped it dry and left it a few times to check. Each time I went back it was leaking through, quite quick in one place. Thanks.
Please let us know what they say.
