This is the first time I've grown tomatoes from seed and I wasn't sure when I should transfer to pots. I was going to do this weekend and I now realise this would be too early. Thanks Joe!

this is the first time using my dads greenhouse. he died early this year. found the help and tips i need to carry on doing what he done.

Didn't know about watering the compost before you sow the seeds. I grow my toms in a greenhouse, and usually put the 8week seedlings large tomato pots immediatly. Seems to work, but you'd need a greenhouse to do it.

I've already sown my "Gartenpearl" tomato seeds and I now have about a 1" seedlings. Gartenpearl tomato plants can also be grown in hanging baskets. Last year most of my tomato plants were effected by "blight", so this year I'm growing baskets tomatoes along with "Basil" to the white fly leave them alone.......
I live in hope that this year I WILL get some decent tomatoes.....

Hello I'm wondering if you can help me? I have a propagator, which I have sowed marmande tomatoes, the propagator is in a greenhouse, and the temperature is at 15 Celsius, is this right?

Hi, Basil growing with tomato plants, helps to repel pests that love tomatoes. In the Med, Basil is used to deter mosquitoes because they don’t like the pungent scent that it omits.

On 5 may i put seeds of the Minibel tomato in litlle pots with soil. The litlle pots where outside, under a plastic tunnel. Today i put the seedlings, 15 of them, in a big plastic 65 liter pot. Now see if they will grow tomatoes :-)

Hi, i am really new to the growing/planting scene, i have bought myself a small plastic greenhouse and i am dying to try and grow something. I have the tomato seeds, Chilli seeds, Basil, corriander and a few other various herbie seeds, but i notice they are mainly all best seeded early in the year. I was wondering is it to late to plant them, even if not to get any fruit off them but just to establish them for next year. Thanks.

basil grown near tomatoes acts as a sacrifice plant for white fly to attack instead, basil and tomatoes also grow well together as in companion planting and the tomatoes taste much nicer when grown with basil.

You can also grow marigolds with Tomatoes as these also help to keep the white fly away. Lynette100, I also to took over from my Dad when he died, thats how I really got into gardening. I got most of the information I needed from Gardeners World on the TV and the magazine, I didn't have a computer then in 1989. Good Luck and stick with it.
