Viability of Collected Dahlia Seeds

I collected Dahlia seeds last October 2013 from ripe seedpods (brown/black). The seeds were brown/black after drying and were then stored over winter in packets in a cool, dark area of my garage.

I have just sown my first batch this last week on seed compost in an electric propagator at about 15 - 20 deg C. So far none have germinated. I am wondering if they have all died and if so what is the most probable reason. Has anybody else had the same results?

Thank you for any advice you can give.

I brought seeds of Dahlia Imperialis ( tree dahlia ) back from a trip to India and had great success with them. Maybe because it's a species, rather than a hybrid. A week isn't any time to be honest. I'd be a bit patient.

I grow various types of dahlia every year, some from self-sown seeds and it can take a few weeks, so no need to worry just yet. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    or two.

    Thanks to you both.
