this is going back in time to when I was a child ( more years than I care to admit) the onion had it "crop" where you would normally expect to find the seed? does any one recognise this strange description,   and does any one know here I might find some to grow

we grew these years ago, the kids called them 'upstairs onions'. They were sold as Egyptian onions

Other common (or maybe not so common these days!) names are 'tree onions' and 'walking onions'.
