chicken pelleted manure

Hi! everyone. Could anyone comment on the use of chicken pelleted manure?

I have used this for this last season,mainly due to it being on offer at my local garden shop. eg. Buy one get one free.....LoL!     I am a sucker for what seems a bargain.

I usually make a hole for a new plant/etc. and usually throw a slack handful of pellets in the hole.           I cannot say I have had  any better results with the plants that have been fed in this way.

Should I ditch the chicken manure for something better?

It is a cheap fertilizer- quite high in nitrogen so might not be ideal for all plants-especially flowering ones when something more balanced is required- but fine for veg when leafy growth is wanted

Just depends on what you use it for or what you grow.

This season, I have mainly used it when planting  flowering shrubs, climbers.

Not ideal-those plants need something more balanced- like rose fertiliser

I agree with Geoff, rose fertiliser is very good for flowering shrubs, climbers and roses.

Chicken pelleted manure is an excellent lawn feed....that is in the spring & summer, not autumn.

I use bonemeal with every planting & scatter the chicken pellets in the borders each spring. Seems to work fine for me. J.

I bought the pellets and I thoight they were not much good but as my daughter has chickens, the real straight from the hen is better if not smeller.Of course my favorite topic Rats, think that too!you have to work manure of any kind into the soil for a number of years to get good results (I have awful heavey clay and it has taken nearly 30 years to get it Right) and of course depends what your growing
