cutting hydranga

Hi again,today i bought a Blaumeise Hydranga, the one that has a flatish flower not the round one, its about 20" high and in good nick,now is it ok to take cuttings of it now and how ,into water or straight into pots etc not done it before,wil the mother plant still flower this year or do i have to wait till next any help would be good and is it true the colour depends on the soil as someone said different soils give different flower colours ie: potash for purple any truth in this at all any help

It will not flower till next year and yes soil type can change the colour on some varieties.

You might be a bit late for cuttings but it won't hurt to try. Straight into pots, they root from cuttings very easily. Only some hydrangeas change colour with the acidity of the soil, some are blue if soil is acid, pink if it's alkaline. Hydrangeas flower between June and October usually - you can take cuttings anytime between spring and autumn
