Dear Smokin

I have been poked in the specs more often than I care to remember. I am the despair of my optician. Actually, his are crocodile tears because he makes a fortune out of my stupidity.

As for growing things, I've grown a lot of things in my time but balls, never. Nor am I ever likely to try. More than happy to be a member of the gentler gender.

I saw a simple solution recently. Large snail shells popped over the top of the cane.

Ask permission of the owner first, of course.

Chicky- love the little owl. Can you remember where you got it?

Potty - it is a chap at Hampton Court Flower show (I treat myself to a few more every year - I think they are 50p a throw).  I have a leaflet in the GH - will let you know the company name tomorrow - too dark now

The terracotta cane toppers are by Terrapot - they still sell them (£1.20 each - either my memory is playing up, there is rampant inflation, or they were on special offer at the show!) - but seem to be currently out of stock.  I'm sure they would email you when they have some back in.

Potty - just had a closer look at that website - they do have them available (was looking at the wrong thing) - but they are also going to be at a show at the Sussex Prairie Garden (Henfield) on 2nd September - if you have never been, it is a fantastic garden, so would be a good day out, not too far from you.  Might even head on down there myself - it seems a great year for rudbeckias here, so they will probably have quite a show.

Ooops - make that Sunday 1st September
