Morning forkers.

White frost on the grass first thing. I might do some fallen tree cutting-up this morning. Then more rain forecast for this afternoon.

In this morning papers (Herald Scotland), a review of a gardening book by James Wong, James Wong's Homegrown Revolution:

"With well over 2500 edible plant species it is crazy that pretty well every book on growing fruit and veg since the Second World War drummed on about the same 20 or so crops, which represent less than 1% of what we can actually grow. This is a book that describes how to grow, harvest and cook plants. Wong selects some unfamiliar candidates such as daylilies (Hemerocallis), pointing out that it is an Asian delicacy. I can vouch that they are delicious. ... Wong points to a Japanese favourite – the young leaf tips of hostas. He also identifies a large number of South American plants traditionally used by the Incas. Grown at high altitudes, they often cope with our weathers......."

The South American delicacies include dahlias. Apparently dahlias were actually introduced to Europe as a root vegetable. It was only later that they became popular for their flowers. They are 'tastier and more productive than spuds'.

Not planned to do anything today, but have plenty to do. Jess was given a 'Christmas Cracker Making Kit' last night, and she's itching to do that! May finish off doing her room as well. Oh, and bloomin ebay. STILL haven't put the stuff on.

There's Crackers, breakfast, toys galore,

Daren't look upstairs, I know there's more!!

I've been outside, sawed up my tree,
Back in the warm with hot coffee.
Now to try my new Santa outfit,
Because I've got a little plan for it.
