new garden centre

My local garden centre has now been taken over by someone else and I had a walk down to see what's what.
I spoke to the new owner and got on very well with him.
The new owner told me he is busy training autistic people everything about gardening.
What a great ideal, how many big garden centres do that.
He showed me some of the work these people have been doing and the results are out of this world, very healthy plants.
He is not getting paid for doing this but does get free labour.
Some of the plants the autistic people are growing are twice the size of the same plants in his nursery.
Anyone from Sunderland who knows Thompson road should call in and see him.

What a lovely story; I hope his GC is successful.
This is another idea that shows the value of gardening to people that have dissabilities of some sort, and is to be much applauded. People of Sunderland get down there now.
When you don't even know who's in the team
S.Yorkshire/Derbyshire border
A friend of mine has just begun organising a garden for people recovering from addiction, and has requested any donations to be in the form of plants or seeds or tools/equipment. I've put a few extra in, of everything I've sown. Gardening gives a sense of calm even when there's so much going on, and can be a focus for the mind and body. It can give a sense of worth to someone who feels inadequate, anybody can garden. It can become a little obsessive, even to the most rational of people, but it's a healthy obsession keeping both the mind and body active and engaged.
lisa, I agree; I'm pretty obsessive about my garden, but better that than rubbish day-time T.V.
I live in Sunderland is that Thompson road in southwick ill have a pop down
Hi I don't live far away, Washington, will certainly give it a visit. Dannyboy can yo give a little more detail, either here or send me a PM. Thanks.
It is on Thompson road in Southwick, used to be called the grange garden centre.
Now called the garden mill
Thanks Danny
Sorry it is called flower mill.
Had a drive down and got some big herbaceous plants for 2.99 but 4 for a tenner
Great value and a great size.
These plants are what the autistic people grew.
Ended up spending £35.00.
