Seed swap

Hey, I have a garden that has been abandoned for 25-30 years and have been gathering some plants etc to grow to bring it back to life. Due to the price of plants...I decided that it was maybe a better idea to grow everything from seed. I have quite a collection now but have found that I have extra seeds that i cant use. I love the idea of everything in my garden being raised by myself and have found it very satisfying. Its snowing out side and I have been scanning through the Thompson & Morgan seed catologue to see what goodies I can find. Would anyone be interested in doing a seed swap through the forum??? Put up what you have and see if someone else has seeds you would like to swap with them? Maybe its a daft idea and I understand that it would be based on trust on both parties but, you would pay your own post (Lets face it, would only be a stamp)...and Im sure that we are all adult enough not to rip each other off as we are all friends in the garden loL

If its a daft idea then just say but I think it might work? 

You'd also have to be happy to give your address to total strangers - not always a wise thing to do - but that being said I've done it in the past and been the grateful recpient of some 'rare breed' tomato seeds 

Its a great idea but I think you'd be wiser to exchange with your local gardeners who  also will exchange with you and give advice on the best plants to grow in your area and of course a great way to make new friends.Its not a wise thing to give out your address ,most of us are genuine but there is always that one person.Have fun with your new adventure.

Is it really a problem giving out an address-it would be done privately via messaging so not everyone would see it -and what is the worst that can happen?-or am I being naive here?

The worst that can happen is that someone who may seem from their posts on here to be a perfectly reasonable member of humanity may turn out to be something else - people have been stalked and worse.  I'm not aware of that sort of thing having happened via this Board, but ....

However, as I said I have given my address to a person I do not know in order to receive tomato seeds, and as yet I'm not aware of anything untoward happening in my life .... but in my humble opinion it would be irresponsible not to point out the inherent dangers of revealing personal details to even the most regular/reasonable of posters.

That bit is true-if it got really nasty there are laws in this country-so it is a case of "buyer" aware.

I'd be happy to seed swap, I've done it several times before from different boards and with some success, even taking into consideration all the comments above and never had any problem before.

I grew a lovely wildflower garden this year was really pleased with the result for little effort but the initial cost of the seeds was high plus I wanted seeds to encourage insects and they sold out very quickly this year.

I have mounds of seeds and would be happy to swap, I took pics of them all before I harvested too but with some of the native wildflowers would have to research what they are before swapping

Are they flower seeds?

i'm happy to save seed next year for swaps but didn't collect a lot this year. Mostly just let things seed and I'll move the seedlings around when they appear.

asilvert. I picked up a copy of Roger Phillips' 'Wild Flowers of Britain' from the charity shop today. It beats anything else I have for identification purposes. 

I have ordered a packet of 100+ Mixed Dahlia seeds from the National Dahlia Collection in Cornwall. They are very cheap and a good way to get started to restore a garden with beautiful blooms next summer. If you have too many then give some away to family and friends.

That seems to work asilvert. Things don't always do as i expect in the computing world. All the pics I've posted before have been mine, this came from google images, perhaps I'm not allowed to use them.

I would seed swap with people only thing is the other person having seeds that you want as well as you having seeds that they want.

I have nasturtiums seeds (climbing) orange, red and possible yellow mixed, pony tail grass seeds and honesty seeds all collected from my garden.

If anybody wants to swap?

Aquilegia - not sure which varities but one deep purpple and light pinks (also a dwarf blue)

Poppies - Gallore red paper, purple and oriental 

Cornflower - heavenly blue

Snapdragon - yellow and white

Echinops

Candytuft

Loosetrife - purple variety (I also have mounds of yellow which I'd be only too happy to re-home!)

Foxgloves

They're the ones I remember but I'm going to have some fun this afternoon now looking through my seed container to see what else I harvested

What a lovely day its been.. 

Oh and I also have raddish - scarlet globe, spring onion, rocket, cucumber and sweet pepper (although I failed miserably with those this year).

Oh yes please, I'd love some honesty seeds the pods are lovely.

I was also reading your tyre thread and have mounds of campanula both purple and white, not sure what strain exactly but if you can send rooted plants your more than welcome to some.

I think campanula are pretty, yes I would like some of those plants.

I think you can send rooted plants in the post, I have sent some before in the post -just wrap up the roots in something like a carrier bag.

I will message you my address and you message me your address so I can send you some honesty seeds to you.

I think honesy is a pretty plant- does look good when flowers (purple flowers) and when it is seed pods as well.

Have you tried the honesty that has white flowers and variegated leaves? just as easy and really brightens up a shady patch.
