Tammi Morrell-Knapton

I am completely new to gardening and am due to move to a delightful bungalow in Cleveland next month where I plan to turn the tired garden into a haven of beautiful plants and flowers. I planted Allium Cernuum seeds yesterday into seed pots and covered with a propagator lid and put them on my window ledge ready to take to my new property. I am such a novice to gardening that I don't even know how often to water them? I have been browsing the internet and some websites say to cover the propagator with newspaper. Any advice would be gratefully received.
