Great to read all the above comments from like minded gardening fans. I too have an allotment, reclaimed from a paddock which my Father and his Grandfather used to keep horses in. It has three stone built stables which we managed to keep but the other buildings were unsalvagable. At the top end was a large 'midden' which we dug and and used for a base for the raised beds, fantastic well rotted manure. I was given a small lean-to Greenhouse which is great for starting off seeds, and my husband has become a master of invention, using all sorts of recycled materials . It has taken 5 years to get to the stage we are at now, but each year we add new things. This is a great chill out area which we use for BBQ's in the summer and quiet evenings with a glass of wine. And what makes it even more special is that I have more than 100 years of my family history in this small space.
