Well they seem to have taken over GW magazine so perhaps it will be better

Think its about time we had a dedicated tv channel for us gardeners, with ALL the other the rubbish they put on the tv these days (not that i watch a lot that is) but i think its time we had a gardening channel throughout the year and not just seasonal ............................ your thoughts

25/02/2013 at 13:07

Im with Brumbull, I think there should be a dedicated channel too. How refreshing to see something educational, inspiring, challenging & exciting all in one programme rather than nost of the rubbish thats on tv.. Roll on 8th March

Thanks DD, not that i just love my gardening but if you look at the amount of channels on the TV these days im sure there is room for a gardening type of channel plus you would not have to move or simply not bother showing GW when Wimbeldon is to be screened !

25/02/2013 at 13:21

Quite agree with you Brumbull.  Have been waiting on GW being back on since it finished last autumn!

25/02/2013 at 13:23

Dedicated TV channel - fine - but only if you can afford the fees for Sky or whatever you watch. Only Freeview here

25/02/2013 at 13:28

Yes Lorraine its a long time to wait as well, i think us gardeners get sold short if you consider the amount of DIY, COOKERY programmes and thats only TWO topics that spring to mind

25/02/2013 at 13:53

Yes sorry Rosa I'm afraid SKY have been allowed to dictate .............. they seem to grow stronger each year but money talks i suppose, still a free-view channel specifically for gardening sounds a great idea

There was a gardening channel but it didn't have enough viewers which means not enough advretising revenue so its plug was pulled.

I do agree though that there's a ludicrous amount of repeats of all sorts of rubbish on the Beeb at the mo and some of the wall to wall cookery and antiques could be replaced with a daily dose of old gardening programmes in season.  They could repeat GW from Geoff H from from Monday to Friday taking 5 different years but the same week of broadcast.

25/02/2013 at 14:10

Well if they can repeat about any other program there is out there ? why not gardening ? i would rather watch a repeated gardening program from the past than some of the current garbage, im sure some of the current channels dont have that higher ratings ............................................ do they ?

Its great to know that Gardeners World will be back on our screens in March. I agree with Brumbull that it would be nice have more gardening programmes on. It would be nice to Geoff Hamilton again. Obelixx is correct, there was a gardening channel and it was taken off which was a real shame because it was good.

I'd be happy watching the older gardening tv shows Percy Thrower etc rather than having to put up with the tripe of today but as said I'am not a big tv watcher, must say I did enjoy the gardening documentary called 'The Big Dig' some time back

Ideas on creating specialist gardens from scratch would be great i.e. Secret garden, woodland garden etc.  I love gardening and plants but find the planning side difficult.  How do you plant up with lots of trees and shrubs and not hide a good view and take too much shade; simple things like that.  Perhaps just a bit more in depth information on how to underplant and time lapse pictures from start to finish and then possibly upkeep to retain the effect you want.  There are so many options.  I love water features, but no one shows you how to do the finishing touches in detail, i.e. hiding the edges of pond liner and planting up around the edges to give a natural effect.  I could go on and on.  Please, please be more inspired for us gardeners who do not have the artistic ability to sit and sketch what they want on paper.  Wonderful web site - I glean so much information.  Thanks you.

I would love to see more gardening programs, I am currently watching ABC of gardening on Catch up when I get fed up with all the tv trash we have to edure these days.

Would love to see the Victorian Garden again to see what the "Old Boys" used to do (in their suits and ties!!) Imagine gardening dressed up like that now!

Looking forward to seeing Monty and Carol on GW, love their enthusiasm!!

one more week to go!

i really miss that gardening channel. The Beeb has so many past GWs it could show - we could easily have a daliy one from the right week of the year. Come on Beeb!
