Hello, we are just making over the garden, it will be deep borders and gravel but no lawn. Can you make compost without grass cuttings? Thank you.

Yes you can, in fact too much grass spoils it. Put all your veg peelings on it, any plant waste, tear all your junk mail, roll some in balls, any newspapers, remember to remove the plastic from the window envelopes, all you paper or cardboard packing from your food,  a couple of shovels of garden soil to get the bacteria that suits your own garden and keep piling up.

Wood bins are best if can make one or better still two, turn it with a garden fork every week and cover with an old piece of carpet.  Maybe a neighbour can give you their grass cutting occasionally.

We have a turnover of garden ready compost every two months, it's just a matter of getting the balance right.
