Papaver somniferum seedling problems

Has anyone else had problems with germinating these seeds indoors? im on my second batch now and they have developed white fuzzy mould on the seedlings I watered from below. I've read so many conflicting ways to grow them that my head is spinning. Some say they need light to germinate, others say dark.So I'm placing my trust in the forum in the hopes that someone else has had success at starting these seeds indoors and through to planting outdoors.

just throw them on the garden. They're not plants for pricking out and potting on and all that stuff.
Poppies generally do best direct sown.
No hardy plant wants to be sown indoors.

Agree with Nut. The vast majority of poppies hate root disturbance anyway and will rarely survive any kind of transplanting. I've found a good way on my clay soil is to use a layer of grit to cover the surface of the soil where I want them to grow and then sprinkle the seeds over the grit - they are that tiny that they will fall through the gaps. You also then know where you've sown them when weeding.
Thx guys, I think I'm on a looser with this particular seed, all others autumn sown indoors are doing well and in the coldframe. I'll wait till spring and direct sow as suggested, I like the idea of sowing onto the grit in the area you want them, I too have clay soil.
I would chuck them down now. Don't wait until spring.
me too, it's what the plants do and they germinate everywhere
