Planting lily bulbs

I have received lily bulbs today with instructions to plant in horticultural sand. I have a bag of lawn sand and am wondering if this is same or if not, will it be ok to use?

I think lawn sand is something that kills moss though I've never used it so might be wrong there.

I use a multi purpose compost for my lilly bulbs. Most are planted in pots with crocks in the bottom.

If planting in a pot I would use either JI3 loam based with a couple of handfulls of horticultural grit added.

If planting in the garden I'd set the lily bulbs on a layer of horticultural grit to ensure they don't sit in a  puddle.

    Do not use lawn sand.

     Use multipurpose with added grit.

  • Ok, thank you everyone- job for tomorrow I think.
