pruning a young laurel hedge

Hi all this is my first post so here goes.

I planted about 100 laurel plants from pots to make a hedge in the spring.It has done really well and I was wondering should I cut back some of the new growth now in order for it to thicken up at the base or wait til the growth is finished for the year or leave it alone altogether.I did cut it back earlier in the year but only by 3 to 4 inches.It now stands approx 2 to 3 foot high.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ray- I'd be inclined to leave it alone for its' first Winter & then you can do another tidy up/reshape in late Spring. I know laurels are hardy, but any new growth now wouldn't have much chance to 'harden' before the really cold weather arrives. J.

Thanks jo I think you might be right so I will leave it till springtime

I agree as it might encourage it to put on new growth now. That new growth could then be hit by frost knocking the young plants back and looking unsightly too.
